INFO: Alpha Five - A good alternative to MS Access
There is a new database in town, and it is no clone! This RDBMS is in the same market as MS Access, but provides far more features, far greater speed, at far less the price per user. With new licensing policies for Office XP, I will not be surprised if this little DB will gain in popularity. It is targeted at the SOHO-SME market and retails at USD 149 for a single user version. Network versions are also available.

The current version is V4.5, and the license cost will be taken into consideration while purchasing the upcoming V5.0. If the BETA I was provided with is something to go by, V5.0 will definitely not disappoint!

Plus, Xbasic developers will find that Alpha Five provides another feature; tweaking DB forms using Xbasic code! In next 5 months, Alpha Software, the ISV, is going to also come up with an application server based totally on Xbasic scripting. This app server will also not need any third party web server, and will have one in-built.

Goveas Solutions has an arrangement with AlphaSoftware, to book orders for Indian clients. For details on this arrangement, contact Richard Rabins, richard@alphasoftware.com.

INFO: Linux Resources
I revisited an interesting site for Linux resources today, and I thought I'd share it with you on my blog. The site is on a popular, Unix-based operating system called Linux. The site is Linux.com, but what I find particularly interesting, is the section that informs you about the range of software available for the Linux platform, with links to sources where you can obtain them:

NEWS: Linux Solutions at ClintonGoveas.com
I just finished adding a NEW section on Linux solutions, to my web site (clintongoveas.com). The new section is available from my site's Lobby (the first page that loads from my web site), under "Goveas Solutions". I intend to develop this section into a suite of services in the next few weeks.

I recognise Linux, and its low end infrastructure requirements, as a good alternative to expensive Windows based infrastructure. My thanks to Rajesh Jain for taking time out to educate me on that.
