INFO: A free, Java-based Search Engine
This program is for those programmers who wanted to implement a full fledged search engine, but did not want to learn a new language to do the same. This search engine is full featured in every sense, and then some! It includes a web crawler, supports multi-language indexing, XML-over-HTTP, and is available as an API for integration, or modification. See more details here.

INFO: Looking for effective SPAM filter?
I personally use a FREE spam filtering software called SpamNet. It integrates with my MS Outlook 2000, and also removes spam quite effectively from my in-box. It works on Windows Me, 2000 & XP, runs invisibly in the background, and provides "blocking" and "unblocking" features. It is the best spam filter I have ever come across. No doubt about it! INFO: PCs - A Health Hazard?
A PC is a great tool, but is it worth killing ourselves over? Are you surprised at this question? Well, I understand, I was just as surprised when I read about the details of the potential health hazards of PC disposal. Many companies in the west see an opportunity in this, and have already begun "exporting" outdated hardware to companies in the "Third" World. Are the importers in these countries aware of the risk they are taking? or, even the risk they cause to others who will invariably be involved in disposing of the trash? Some states in the U.S. have already decided to do something about it. Its time our governments woke up to it too. Well, cheap PCs anyone?

INFO: How much do you know about the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879?
I'm sure you must be thinking - "What a silly question to ask... Why ?... Is it supposed to be something I should know about?" Well, no, actually. I just happened to come across this web site of the Anglo-Zulu War Society, and happened to go through the contents. In doing so, I came across a set of letters written by a 24 year old soldier, Ashley Goatham, which tell us an interesting account about his life during the 1879 war, and his subsequent death in a hopeless battle. A very thought provoking story on the web site about the lives of people he loved, and who would have missed him dearly after his untimely death. This story is a recommended read. BOOK REPORT: Burke Hedges' - "You Can't Steal Second With Your Foot On First!"
I have spent the better part of my week-end reading this book. It is an interesting piece of literary work contrasting the lives, and futures of people involved in "job-ism" & "free enterprise". Through a lively narrative, drawn from the author's experiences, knowledge, and acquaintances, the author attempts to show us how "choice", and not "chance", determines our destiny. The author then proceeds to make a strong case of the merits of the free enterprise system. Though the book is intended for "dissatisfied employees" in the U.S., it's message is just as relevant in the Asian or Indian context, where corporate lay-offs are becoming a routine occurence.
